Which size should I pick for my watch?

The Lug width refers to the distance where the strap connects with the watch and the buckle width refers to the width of the strap required to fit in between the buckle.

Our strap sizes are displayed in the following format format: Lug Width/Buckle Width

For example, if the lug width of my watch is 19mm, and the buckle width is 16mm, the correct size I would need to select is 19mm/16mm 

How long should my strap be?

While everyone’s preference for their strap lengths may differ, we don’t like our straps to be too long. A good indicator of whether a strap is too long is if the tail of the strap is visible on your wrist.  

Method 1: Measuring Your Wrist Size

  

To measure your wrist size, use a thin piece of paper, measuring tape, masking tape or string. Wrap a piece of paper around your wrist and mark where it meets the other end of the paper. Lay this piece of paper down flat and measure the total length of paper. This is your wrist size. 

Method 2: Measuring an existing strap that fits 

One quick way of finding your strap length is to measure the length of a strap you currently have. Sum up the two lengths of the long and short sides of the strap (i.e 120mm and 80mm = 200mm)  If you feel the existing strap is too long or too short, adjust the length accordingly.

Our standard sizes 

Extra Small: 95mm/65mm fits a wrist size of 5.25 - 6.0 inches 
Small: 105mm/70mm fits a wrist size of 6 - 6.75 inches 
Standard: 115mm/75mm fits a wrist size of 6.5 inches to 7.2 inches
Large: 125mm/80mm fits a wrist size of 7.2 inches to 8.25 inches
Custom: We can accomodate custom lengths for made-to-order straps

We are pleased to offer many stitching colours that hopefully allows you to be match colour accents of your watch. Our choice of thread is super fine linen as it is a 100% natural material from the flax plant and generally does not feather up over time.

Spring Bars:
Spring Bars

As the name suggests, spring bars consist of a hollow metal tube with a spring-loaded mechanism inside and a pin on each end. When compressed, the pins retract, allowing the spring bar to be inserted into the lugs of the watch case. Upon release, the spring force extends the pins into the lug holes, securely holding the strap or bracelet in place. This mechanism provides a secure yet easily removable connection

Quick Release Spring Bars have a knob located on the back of the strap which can be pulled to compress the spring bar.

If you're watch does not utilise spring bars, it is highly likely that your strap is screwed onto the watch. This screw comes with the watch can be unscrewed to replace the strap.

Artisan Straps

Our Opal Blue American Alligator leather is a leather from HCP (Hermes) in France.  If you're looking for a blue alligator that isn't too dark like many of the options on the market, this one is for you. This opal blue alligator pairs well with lighter coloured dials and blued hands. 

  • Tannery: HCP, France
  • Temper: Medium
  • Surface: Smooth scaled
  • Patina: Medium
  • Water Resistance: Low. To ensure longevity, avoid moisture or soaking our straps in water.


This strap is made-to-order and our current turnaround time of approximately 3 weeks applies.


The sizing is in the format as follows: (LUG WIDTH/BUCKLE WIDTH)

  • The lug width refers to the width of the strap at the lugs (where it connects to the watch).
  • The buckle width refers to the width of the strap at the buckle or clasp.

For the strap length:

  • Short: 105mm/70mm will suit a 145 mm - 167.5 mm wrist size. (5.7 - 6.7 inches)
  • Standard: 115mm/75mm will suit a 162.5mm - 182.5mm wrist size. (6.4 - 7.1 inches)
  • Long: 125mm/80mm will suit a 182.5 mm - 212.5 mm wrist size. (7.1 - 8.2 inches)

With our leather straps, we recommend avoiding any contact with water. This means to avoid showering, swimming or submerging the strap in water. While our leathers may have strong water resistance on the surface, water may seep through to the fibres of the strap through the stitching holes.

However, if your strap does get wet, we recommend allowing it to fully dry before applying a bees wax or mink oil based leather conditioner to replenish the lost oils. We also recommend applying a leather conditioner ever 6-12 months to prolong the lifespan of the strap.

Avoid contact with alcohol and solvents (think perfumes and colognes!) as this weakens the integrity of the edge finishing.

The Gold Standard for Leather Watch Straps

All of our watch straps are entirely handmade, utilising traditional leathercrafting techniques. They are cut, saddle stitched and edge painted by hand to ensure your straps are durable and develop character with wear. All of our straps are lined with Zermatt leather, a hypoallergenic and water-resistant french calf leather. As all our leathers are full-grain leathers, the natural characteristics of the leather will show and may vary across straps.

Hypoallergenic Calfskin Lining

In order to provide a luxurious feel, the straps are lined with Zermatt calfskin leather from Haas Tannery. This premium material is specially developed for use as a lining material and offers exceptional softness and comfort. It is also water and sweat-resistant, making it ideal for use in hot and humid climates.

Fine Hand Stitching

Our made-to-order straps showcase a fine hand-stitching density. With a spacing of 2.4mm per stitch, this creates a very refined look. Should you wish to go for a more rugged look, we also offer thicker thread and wider density stitching at 2.7mm and 3.0mm.

Strap Thickness

Our standard unpadded strap thickness is 2.2mm and padded strap thickness tapers from 4.5mm to 2.2mm. We are able to customise the thickness of the strap accordingly.

316L Stainless Steel Buckle

Our straps comes installed with a 316L stainless steel buckle which is engraved with our Artisan Straps logo. This buckle comes with drilled lug holes allowing for easy removal without damaging the strap.

Spring Bars

Choose between regular spring bars, quick-release spring bars or no spring bars. While quick-release spring bars are our preference as we love to change straps, we also understand it's not everyones cup of tea!

Smooth & Polished Edges

The edges of our straps are finished with Italian edge paint - sealing the raw edges from wear and tear. With over 5 layers of edge paint applied and rigorous sanding in between, our straps exhibit a beautiful smooth edge.
